Alternative Processes Examples

WET PLATE COLLODION PRINT

Wet collodion process, also called collodion process was invented in 1851 by Englishman Frederick Scott Archer. To achieve this look you have to add a soluble iodide to a solution of collodion (cellulose nitrate) and cover a glass plate with that mixture. With a series of other chemicals it goes through the development process in a dark room.

CYANOTYPE
Cyanotype is a photographic blueprint used by engineers to create a simple and low cost process to producing multiple copies of drawings. The English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel discovered the procedure in 1842. The process uses two chemicals: ammonium iron(lll) citrate and potassium ferricyanide to achieve the blueprint photo.

GUM BICHROMATE
Gum bichromate is an old photographic printing process based on light sensitivity. Any color can be used for gum printing. The process starts with Gum Arabic being mixed with watercolor and a photo sensitive substance and then brushed onto watercolor paper. When exposed to light the areas where light hits the most, the gum hardens the most and creates a shadow on the photo.

Project 6: Panorama

Panoramic photography is a technique of photography, using specialized equipment or software, that captures images with horizontally elongated fields of view. This panorama was taken with the idea to have one person in every shot. So that when the final imaged was put together there would be one people someone standing in multiple places at once.

Project 6: Layered photos

For this layered photo, I choose to use one of the many themes of Portland, the city of bridges. So I used three of the bridges that I just so happen to cross in one day. Each bridge has a different layout and different dimensions that overlap smoothly.

For this layered photograph I used nature as the theme with all of them consisting of green so that they would blend better together.  As well as having a different vibrant color in each so that individually those colors would come through. This picture is very calming because of the soft colors and the low opacity levels.

For this layered image I used one focus point, the road, and than had my subject, my friend Taylor, move from the left, to middle, to the right of the photo. I was trying to get a sense of movement or multiple people, subjects, in one photo.
